Producer Karl Sydow and Royal Theatre Carré are delighted to announce that Sting’s musical, The Last Ship will return to Carré due to the phenomenal success of its initial season which receives its world première on Sunday 18th January 2026. Following a completely sold-out original run ahead of its premiere, the musical, written by and starring Sting will return to Amsterdam from 29 August to 13 September 2026 with tickets on sale today.
The Last Ship
Sting’s most personal work to date tells the story of a tight-knit community fighting the decline of the shipbuilding industry in the northern English town of Wallsend — Sting’s hometown. The seventeen-time Grammy Award–winning artist takes on the role of Jackie White, the foreman of the shipyard, whose health is failing just as his leadership is needed most. In this production, Sting brings audiences back to his hometown—a place he once longed to escape—into a world where love, loss, and hope are deeply intertwined. It is a powerful tribute to working class people, family bonds, and holding on to hope when everything seems to be slipping away.
After its initial run at Carré from 14 January through 1 February, The Last Ship embarks on world tour including Paris, Brisbane and the Metropolitan Opera House in New York, before returning to Amsterdam.
Broadway in Carré
The production is part of the Broadway in Carré series, which presents original English-language top musicals from Broadway and the West End. Previous titles include Pippin, Sunset Boulevard, The Book of Mormon, and Hadestown.
